Born and raised in Lexington, SC. Bill attended Lexington High School and was part of a State Championship basketball team his senior year in 2000. Although he rarely left the bench, except for the final seconds of that championship game vs Marlboro County, his mission was to attain the game ball…and he failed to do so!
Upon learning that 5-foot-7 point guards with average athletic ability are not in demand on the collegiate level, Gunter attended the University of South Carolina…on the just under six-year plan. Bill graduated with a degree in History with a minor in Journalism and Business Management.
Bill always enjoyed being around sports and embarked in a career in coaching as an Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach under Bucky Harris at Lexington HS. Bill also was the head coach of the 9th Grade Boys Basketball Team.
Gunter left coaching behind in 2009 to pursue a career in the sports journalism field, which led him to ESPN as a recruiting analyst, The Big Spur as a beat writer for Gamecocks Athletics and a columnist for Spurs and Feathers. During that period, Bill started branching out into the sports radio field, which eventually led him to 107.5 The Game.
